Studio class focuses on individual process, creativity and expression, employing a variety of media and techniques, including oils, acrylics, pastel, charcoal, watercolor and sequencing. Projects are developed individually with instructors. Open to all levels of experience.

Mondays 1 pm- 4 pm 10 classes, Feb. 1 – April 12
Working from the live model, students will be shown various ways to understand and draw the human figure. Using charcoal, pastel and paint, students will explore how to create a sense of space, light, form and feeling within a picture. A second session may be scheduled in April. Call for info. |

Working from the live model, students will be offered instruction in technique and materials, and will be encouraged to explore their individual process. Some life drawing experience is recommended.

Thursday 11 am – 2 pm 10 classes, Feb. 4 – April 15
Students will learn reliable ways of simplifying the variety and complexity of the human face. Once a basic understanding of features and proportions is gained, the artist is able to draw and paint the portrait with more assurance, exploring the colors, methods and materials that most suit them. We will work from a wide range of models. A second session may be scheduled in April. Call for info.

Tuesdays noon – 2:30 pm 8 classes, Feb. 2 – Mar. 30
We will explore three basic sculptural techniques. We begin with metal armatures covered with pulp and rice paper that can be illuminated from within, we move on to clay and plaster casting, and end with wooden constructions that incorporate transfer and collage elements a la Robert Rauschenberg. No worries, basic joinery and construction techniques will be taught along the way!

Tuesday noon – 2:30 pm 8 classes, April 6 – June 1
Explore traditional and non-traditional printmaking techniques in a class that has something for everyone. During the semester we will cover dry-point etching, collagraphs and monotypes, as well as photo transfer and scrap metal printing.

Thursday 9:30 pm – 12:30 pm. 10 classes, Feb. 4 – April 15
Explore and create your own unique monotypes and relief printmaking using Akua non-toxic printmaking inks and R&F pigment sticks. Participants will make their own prints and then work back into them using various media. A second session may be scheduled in April. Call for info.

The meeting of meditation and art making opens ways for our creative energy to manifest in new, often mysterious ways. Through the use of various media including painting, found object assemblage, and collage, we will explore the mystery. |

New Class!
How to translate the 3 dimensional world of light, form, space and proportion to the two dimensional surface of the paper is the focus of this 15 week class. Working primarily with pencil and charcoal students will be introduced to a variety of ways of drawing from life. Still life, landscape and the human figure will be our subjects. This class is for terrified beginners and those who wish to revisit the fundamentals of seeing simply and drawing.

In this class, students will relax, have fun, and learn to trust their instincts, no matter their level of skill. Emphasis will be on building basic skills by practicing new and less judgmental ways to draw and see the world. |
