Watercolor Studio: Painting the Landscape — Focus on Trees with Lynn Zimmerman
For experienced painters who want to join others to develop and expand their painting skills in a supportive and helpful atmosphere online. Each class includes instruction, practice exercises, time to paint on your subjects of your own choosing, followed by time for sharing your work and process with kind and constructive critique from each other as well as the instructor.
The medium of watercolor is perfect for painting trees and landscapes. In this class, we'll explore the color, value, and basic shapes of trees.
In session one, we’ll look at trees in the landscape and use abstraction to simplify and represent trees. We'll play with some magical watercolor and ink techniques that bring tree forms to life. And what to do with all that green? We'll talk about that, too.
In session two, we'll look closer at trees by moving into the details. The textures of bark, the shapes of leaves, the direction of branches are all important aspects of trees to consider when painting them. We'll also play with some watercolor pencils to add vibrant color and detail to our work. SESSION TWO
Painters will be expected to provide their own paints and brushes. (A list of suggestions will be provided if requested.) A packet of paper, various tools, ink (for session one), and watercolor pencils (for session two) will be provided. (Please add $10 if you need your supplies shipped.) Financial assistance with tuition and supplies is available.
