Children of War
“…Who once dressed in footed pajamas,
who once was smothered in kisses
Who seemed so strong
I could not imagine your mouth would ever come to stop asking”
By Jane Hirshfield
These paintings are a continuation of my exploration of portraits of children experiencing war and violence throughout the world, child immigrants at our borders, and American children being shot down in our elementary and secondary schools.
I come to the is work to honor my ancestors: My Jewish grandfather who fled the pogroms in Ukraine when he was 14. My three year old mother and her family who fled Nazi Germany after fighting Hitler youth in the streets.
This show is a fund raiser. Any sales of these paintings, and any sales of my posters (suggested ten dollars each or whatever you can afford) will be donated to Gifford Law Project to Prevent Gun Violence.
