Exhibiting at Gallery 34

Gallery 34 is an intimate community gallery space. Monthly exhibits showcase the artwork of established and emerging artists.

The gallery’s Main Street location affords convenient public access, and large window spaces allow street-side viewing of exhibits. The Gallery is open whenever RGS’s Main Street Studio is open, and access is easily arranged by contacting the office.

Once a show is approved, artists curate and hang their own exhibits, and can host an opening for Gallery Walk (or another time by arrangement). The front part of Main Street Studio (MSS) is available to the exhibiting artist during Gallery Walk for gathering. The artist receives a key to the gallery for the month, and can also arrange visits at their convenience.

Each artist provides publicity material – a statement, a bio, and images- which are used by RGS to publicize each show through our website and when possible in our online newsletter and through social media outlets.

RGS charges a fee for the month but does not take a commission. While sales are made directly between artist and buyer, RGS is happy to help make arrangements.

Assistance with hanging the show can be provided for an additional fee based on staff availability.

Gallery Rendering and Floor Plan

Rental only includes the front left portion of 34 Main Street as illustrated in the floor plan. Depending on other RGS events, you may be able to use the rest of the space during your Gallery Walk opening for guests and refreshments, but art can only be displayed in the gallery area.

At times we will have our own exhibit and or art classes in the Main Street Studio space next to Gallery 34.

Gallery 34 Rental Agreement

as of October 2023 – subject to change

Gallery 34 is a small art gallery available to rent on a monthly basis for artist’s exhibits. Gallery 34 is owned and operated by River Gallery School of Art (RGS).

One or more artists may exhibit their work in Gallery 34. Regardless of the number of exhibiting artists, there must be one main contact who will assume responsibility for communications and payment. The main contact will coordinate the hanging and removal of the exhibit, gather required information from all participating artists, and act as the single point of contact for all financial transactions and communications between RGS and the group. For group shows, the group is responsible for selecting the main contact and providing their information to RGS.

Terms of rental:

The rental duration is based on art openings occurring the first Friday of every month. The rental period begins the day before the first Friday of the month. The rental period ends the Tuesday preceding the first Friday of the next month or the end of your rental month (whichever comes first). All work must be taken down, holes in the walls must be patched, and any damage to the space repaired within your rental period.

Opening and/or closing receptions must be arranged with the RGS office. The exhibitor is responsible for being present for the duration of any receptions. Any food or drink, set up and clean up will be the responsibility of the exhibitor. Dates for hanging and taking down the show must be pre-arranged with the RGS office.

Hanging, including pricing and labels, and removal of work will be the responsibility of the exhibitor. Please bring your own nails or hangers. For labels, only water-soluble products should be used, such as glue sticks and paper. RGS will be responsible for painting the gallery, however, the renter is responsible for spackling and sanding to fill any holes, and repairing any damage, repairs will be at the renter’s expense. Nails and labels must be removed at the end of the exhibit. Rental does not include support in curating, hanging, or removing the show.

Payment of rental fee is due three months prior to the exhibit opening. If payment is not received, RGS reserves the right to transfer the reservation to another artist.

As Gallery 34 is part of a community arts school, work shown must be appropriate for all ages. RGS reserves the right to choose not to exhibit or to remove any work it considers inappropriate for the school’s image. If there is any question, please submit photos of the art to be hung at least 60 days in advance of the show.

Gallery 34 is open when there are classes or events, and can be opened by request when the RGS office is open. The renter will receive a code to lockbox with a key to the gallery for the month. This key is the property of RGS and may not be copied or given to another person. The key is to be used only to open the gallery and access the exhibit. With prior arrangement with the RGS office, the renter may choose to open and sit in the gallery when Gallery 34 would otherwise be closed, such as on weekends. RGS reserves the right to close without notice due to weather, illness or unforeseen events.

Insurance against loss is the responsibility of the renter. Gallery 34 and River Gallery School of Art will not compensate or reimburse the exhibitor for any loss of artwork due to damage, theft, calamity or accident.

Sales

RGS/Gallery 34 does not charge a commission on sales. The only cost for exhibiting in Gallery 34 is the monthly rental fee.

If a potential buyer is interested in a work when the renter is not present, RGS will collect that person’s information and send it to the renter for follow-up. RGS cannot process credit card payments on behalf of the renter. RGS can collect and hold cash or checks for the renter, if desired, by previous arrangement. You are also welcome to post a venmo QR code to take payments directly.

The renter must make arrangements with buyers to pick up or otherwise receive any purchased artwork. RGS will not hold sold art work for buyers after the exhibit is over. If necessary, packing and shipping of artwork to a buyer is the responsibility of the renter.

To be featured on the website, renters must provide all information asked on the Exhibitor’s Form for Gallery 34 at least 60 days prior to the exhibit. This includes artists’ bios, photos of artwork and an artist’s statement.
