May 2023: Lydia Thomson
New Work in Walnut Ink
Lydia Thomson is an artist and teacher. She lives in Southern Vermont and uses the fields and hills surrounding her home on Deer Ridge Farm in Townshend as her primary subject when painting landscapes. She also works with still life, abstract forms, and experiments with whatever comes to hand. Although her work takes many different forms, it all is concerned with ‘finding’. Each foray into art-making begins in the unknown and struggles toward the light.
In her teaching, she tries to support each artist’s journey toward self-expression. She works as Artistic Director at the River Gallery School in Brattleboro, VT, a 45-year-old non-profit that was founded on the belief that each of us has an inherent desire and ability to be creative. The classes, for both children and adults, are designed to help with that process. She feels grateful for the opportunity to work with people exploring their creativity.
