We believe that art has the power to restore dignity and foster belonging, not only within individuals but also across our shared social fabric. As a community-rooted organization, RGS strives to serve with integrity and compassion, helping to stitch our town together in ways that make it more resilient, more inclusive, and ultimately stronger. Art for All centers around five key areas of focus: Creative Aging, Art for New Vermonters, Ability Arts, Making Community, and Art in Schools.
Creative Aging classes provide engaging, welcoming opportunities for seniors to connect with their creativity. These art classes explore a variety of media including drawing, watercolor, oil painting, collage, cyanotype, and printmaking. They are social programs where older adults can learn new skills while building community and having fun in the process.
Art for New Vermonters supports individuals and families through no-cost art workshops and classes to help build community connections and navigate resettlement stress through creative expression. Participants collaborate on projects that honor their journeys and cultures while strengthening self-confidence and belonging.
Ability Arts is an educational program that supports artists with disabilities as they create and exhibit their artwork. The program provides access for all participants through adaptive art supplies and inclusive teaching practices, led by highly trained teaching artists. Participants explore diverse media, exercise creative choice, and build social connections through artistic self-expression.
Making Community offers programs that use the process of art-making to foster creative expression and support healing for individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ongoing classes include Art as Meditation, Angels and Beasts, Mend and Stitch, Art + Action, and the Breast Cancer Project. We also collaborate with local organizations to bring art experiences to elders and caregivers in our community.
Art in Schools brings RGS teaching artists into local public elementary schools each month, giving students hands-on opportunities to explore art materials and creative expression. The program nurtures confidence, resilience, flexibility, and collaboration while fostering strong connections between students, teachers, and artists. RGS currently partners with Oak Grove, Guilford Central, NewBrook, and Townshend Village schools.
