Mixed Media

Mixed media art combines two or more mediums into one piece of visual art. We offer classes and workshops in mixed media art that allow you to explore techniques and materials to create something unique and compelling. Encaustics (painting with hot waxes) can feature embedded elements, endless textures and overlays of paint. Bookmaking and collage allow you to combine various materials on paper into a singular expression of your creativity.

Encaustic

Encaustics_Jen_Wiechers

Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated encaustic wax medium to which colored pigments have been added for creating artworks. Molten medium is applied to a surface – usually prepared wood – and collage materials can be introduced into the layers. It is both an additive and reductive process inviting scraping and mark making, and full of surprises as the heat interacts with the wax.
