Small Works October 2022

Small Works

In October 2022, Gallery 34 features small works by four local artists. Each artist will present a collection of small, framed and affordable paintings that will surely tempt you!  Featured artists are:  Deedee Jones, Lesley Heathcote, Pat McPike, and Maggie Smith.

Deedee Jones

Deedee Jones has been involved in artistic endeavors for as long as she can remember. While not formally trained in art school, after her children were mostly grown, she began taking classes at the River Gallery School in Brattleboro where she quickly fell in love with pastels. Deedee has taken numerous workshops with master pastel artists locally and throughout the Northeast. She has almost exclusively painted in pastels for the past 25 years with a few diversions in watercolor. Deedee’s subject matter is primarily the landscape of Vermont and New England. Pastel offers the perfect medium to achieve the rich color and excitement that she wishes to achieve in her landscape paintings. You can see her work at Vermont Artisan Designs in Brattleboro and at Canal Street Art Gallery in Bellows Falls.

Leslie Heathcote

My paintings are inspired by the beauty and intelligence found in the natural world. Growing up in New England and spending many hours in the woods of Vermont, developed my deep love of nature. Giving form to this love through paintings of birds, animals and landscapes in the medium of soft pastel is a great joy. I received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 1980. I’ve been exhibiting my art nationally and regionally for over 30 years.

Pat McPike

Brattleboro has been home for Pat for 41 years. After a fulfilling career as a Speech Language Pathologist, she decided it was time to follow her passion and create art full time. She especially loves painting landscapes in both oils & soft pastels. Her goal is to capture color, light & sense of place to connect the viewer to their own special memories.

Maggie Smith

After many years of teaching French and Music to all ages in the Brattleboro area and leading tours in France with Elderhostel, Maggie decided to take some art classes. She was a frequent student at River Gallery School of Art, where she was introduced to pastels. She has taken many workshops both locally and nationally with renowned artists. She has won several awards for her paintings. She serves on the boards of the Vermont Pastel Society and the Pastel Society of New Hampshire.
